Adrian Peterson was arrested Sunday morning at Los Angeles International Airport.

The all-time great and former Washington running back was arrested by Los Angeles Airport Police and released Sunday afternoon on bail. TMZ first reported the arrest.

Airport officials reportedly said a flight from Los Angeles to Houston had to return to the gate because of an altercation.

“Earlier today Adrian and his wife Ashley had a verbal argument on a flight, and he was removed from the plane,” a representative for the Petersons told TMZ. “This is a private misunderstanding between husband and wife and we anticipate it will all be resolved shortly.”

Peterson’s court date is scheduled for June 16.

This wasn’t his first arrest. Peterson was charged with felony child abuse in 2014 for using a switch to spank his son, who was 4 years old at the time. Peterson later pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of misdemeanor reckless assault that resulted in two years of probation. He was suspended by the NFL for one year.

Peterson, 36, played for Washington in 2018 and 2019. In 2021, Peterson suited up for Tennessee and Seattle. The 15-year veteran ranks fifth in NFL history with 14,918 career rushing yards.
