Fully 70% of Americans say they’ve grown tired of all the coronavirus talk, and equally tired of all the coronavirus clampdowns on freedoms, and they also say it’s high time to “get on” with living.

In other words: Dear Democrats, it’s time to find a new political tool.

Fear as an exploitative opportunity seems to have run its COVID-19 course.

According to a new Monmouth University poll, 78% of Americans who’ve had the virus say society should just get used to the idea of living with the coronavirus and return to life as normal — meaning, life as it was before COVID-19.

Of that segment, 89% are Republicans; 47%, Democrats; 71%, independents.

And more significantly: “Fully 7 in 10 Americans (70%) agree with the sentiment that ‘it’s time we accept that Covid is here to stay and we just need to get on with our lives’ — including … 65% of those who say they have not been infected,” Monmouth University Polling Institute wrote.

Why are Democrats so reluctant to return to pre-COVID norms?

Here’s the answer: Their entire life is wound up in winning political points; the coronavirus is just too juicy a tool to take away just yet. They still have a lot more power and control to squeeze from it. That, and they don’t believe in a sovereign God so much as an all-powerful government. So, when government says, “Jump,” they not only ask, “How high?” but demand everybody else in the world comply with the answer, as well.

If leftists have their way, the coronavirus clampdowns will never leave.

The government will always have the right to impose regulations.

And Dr. Anthony Fauci will always have the authority to play dictator.

As for most of America, though, COVID fatigue has settled in big time.

“Americans are still concerned about virus, but lose faith in federal measures,” Monmouth University wrote in its poll summary.

Americans, more than two years into the virus, are finally embracing what should have been U.S. COVID policy, Day One — and that is individual choice; individual decision-making; individual accountability; individual responsibility.

If you’re sick, stay home.

If you’re not, live life as normal — as pre-COVID normal. And if you’re a Democrat, leave the rest of Americans alone.
