Baltimore boxer Gervonta Davis was arrested Tuesday on a domestic violence charge, according to jail records in Broward County, Florida.
The arrest comes less than two weeks before the lightweight titleholder’s Jan. 7 pay-per-view fight against Hector Luis Garcia at Capital One Area in the District. But the incident marks the latest legal trouble for the 28-year-old, who is scheduled to stand trial in February for his alleged involvement in a hit-and-run that took place in November 2020.
Davis, according to records, was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday. No details about the arrest were immediately provided. His bond was set at $1,000.
Davis was previously arrested on domestic violence charges in February 2020 when he was accused of “battering his former girlfriend,” though the case was discharged on Dec. 13.
Whether his latest arrest would affect the Jan. 7 card was not immediately clear.
Davis (27-0, 25 KO) was set to fight in the District for the first time in more than six years. If he came out victorious, the boxer was scheduled for an April showdown with rival Ryan Garcia in one of boxing’s biggest fights.
