OPINION:
President Biden should take the initiative to bring about an end to the war in Ukraine. The Ukrainian people and the Russian soldiers are suffering greatly. One senses that Vladimir Putin wants to end it while saving face. We are spending billions upon billions of dollars in support of a war we can ill afford.
The U.S. should exercise its position of world leadership to take the lead in negotiating an end to the war, starting with a cease-fire. This should be followed by an agreement and a withdrawal of all troops. We must also take a firm hand with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who now appears to be dictating the war as we follow with massive investment.
A dangerous continuation of the war is being supported for financial gain by the U.S. military-industrial complex, certain members of Congress and the federal government. Without leadership, they can push us further into the depths of war. This is where Mr. Biden should bring about an immediate halt.
I am calling upon President Biden to act immediately. He should start with a Christmas announcement.
