OPINION:
Have you ever boarded an airliner during a rainstorm and then, minutes later, broken through the clouds to bright sunshine? It can be quite startling. People blink like moles emerging from their burrow.
The sun has been there all along, of course, but when we’re unable to see it from below, we can forget how bright it can be.
That’s how believers view this world under God. No matter how bad things get, there is a Creator God who loves us and inspires hope in this life and the next. Sometimes we are even blinded by the light.
That’s the message of Christmas. During the darkest month of the year, when daylight is scarce, we celebrate the coming of a Savior who brought eternal light, life, love and truth to an unforgiving world.
Christians exchange gifts to commemorate God’s ultimate gift to us — Jesus. Christmas lights represent divine light overcoming the darkness. Nonbelievers who aren’t scrooges can feel the joy, exchange gifts and revel in timeless carols even if they disbelieve the reason for the season.
Right now, unfortunately, many people seem more and more attracted to darkness. In fact, dark themes permeate much of our entertainment, especially films. Our ruling elites are recasting sin as virtue, turning virtue into sin and daring us to object.
We can only imagine what God thought of President Biden lighting up the White House in rainbow colors this past week to celebrate his signing of the “Respect for Marriage Act,” which utterly disrespects marriage as defined in the Old and New testaments. President Barack Obama did the same thing in 2015 to hail the Supreme Court’s same-sex marriage ruling.
In 2020, Mr. Obama retweeted an image of the rainbow White House to celebrate the Supreme Court ruling written by Neil Gorsuch that lifts “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” to the status of race in federal civil rights law. Thanks again, Neil.
The upshot of those rulings and the Respect for Marriage Act is that biblical sexual morality and even biological truth are now a form of bigotry actionable under the law. If you think LGBTQ activists have been aggressively pushing their agenda, we’ve not seen anything yet. Twerking drag queens in public library programs for children are just the beginning.
It’s all part of our culture’s replacement of Judeo-Christian values with moral and cultural relativism, which functions as a dark religion with its own versions of heaven and hell.
As usual, the Babylon Bee (“fake news you can trust”) has dispensed searing truth: “White House Lit Up with Symbol of Religious Cult.”
The rainbow “officially signal[ed] the Biden Administration’s establishment of a new state-sponsored religion,” the Bee said. “Mainstream media sources hailed the move as a significant victory in the crusade for inclusivity and acceptance of all people, except for anyone who disagrees, in which case dissidents should be removed from society.”
The Bee included a fake quote from White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre: “Any questions regarding this issue will be considered bigoted, racist, and other horrible things I can’t think of right now.” Sometimes it’s hard to discern between satire and the real thing.
Humor is a time-honored response to abuses of power. Ask anyone who has lived under communism. Another response, when possible, is to shine a light on what’s wrong so something can be done.
It is hoped that much will come to light when Republicans take over the House in January. They plan to investigate the false Russian collusion narrative, Big Tech/government censorship and the weaponizing of America’s intelligence agencies against conservatives. For starters.
Meanwhile, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will petition the state Supreme Court to convene a grand jury to investigate “any and all wrongdoing” with respect to the COVID-19 pandemic. This means looking into the Big Pharma/government axis that is still pushing the vaccines, Big Tech’s suppression of dissenting doctors and the extent of adverse reactions to the shots.
Finally, there’s new Twitter owner Elon Musk’s daily exposure of Twitter’s complicity with the Obama and Biden administrations to skew the news, suppress dissent and weaponize the FBI, CIA and Department of Homeland Security against political opponents. The revelations are stunning.
Sometimes, the truth takes a while to get out. It can be like the dawn breaking, with gradual expansion of light before the sun rises. But it will get out. Jesus promised in Luke 8:17: “For nothing is secret that will not be revealed, nor anything hidden that will not be known and come to light.”
The light is still shining, and darkness cannot hide it forever. So, let’s not let the doomsayers and clouds spoil our Christmas.
As John 1:5 says, “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
