Tom Brady returned to the Buccaneers Monday after an 11-day hiatus that confounded the NFL world.

However, the question remains: Why would Brady — widely considered one of the most dedicated athletes of his generation — take such a long break from training camp?

Brady and the Buccaneers have yet to explain the cause for his absence, aside from coach Todd Bowles saying it was “to deal with some personal things.”

But according to a report from Pro Football Network’s Aaron Wilson, Brady’s absence from the team included a vacation to the Bahamas. Wilson reported that Brady and his family, including his wife Gisele Bündchen, stayed at an exclusive resort in the Bahamas and that his break wasn’t for any medical emergency or family emergency.

Bowles said when he announced Brady’s break that his PTO was approved by the team and was not a surprise. There was some question about whether Brady would actually return Monday as expected, but he was at practice Monday morning in Florida.

Brady retired after 22 seasons in February, but he changed his mind six weeks later and unretired.

The trip to the Bahamas, while strange in the middle of training camp, is less strange than some of the speculation and conspiracy theories that surfaced while Brady was gone. Some questioned whether everything was OK with Brady and Bündchen’s marriage, while others wondered if Brady was filming an episode of “Masked Singer.”

The 45-year-old quarterback now has 20 days to prepare for Tampa Bay’s season opener on Sept. 11 against the Cowboys on “Sunday Night Football”
