The Little League Classic is becoming one of the highlights of the MLB season, and next year the Nationals will get their chance to play in front of the world’s best youngsters.
Major League Baseball announced on Sunday that the Nationals and Phillies will face off in the 2023 Little League Classic in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. It will be the first time the Washington Nationals will participate in one of MLB’s neutral-site contests.
The annual game is a daylong event. The players from the two MLB teams attend a Little League World Series game in the early afternoon and spend time hanging out with some of the young players. At night, the Little Leaguers, their coaches and families then attend the MLB game at Muncy Bank Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field.
The Classic began in 2017 between the Pirates and Cardinals. The following games were: Phillies versus Mets in 2018; Pirates and Cubs in 2019; Guardians and Angels in 2021; and Orioles versus Red Sox this season.
The Orioles beat the Red Sox 5-3 on Sunday. But the real fun came earlier in the day with players and coaches on both teams — including Orioles rookie catcher Adley Rutschman and Boston manager Alex Cora — sliding down the famous hill in Williamsport.
