Rep. Liz Cheney invoked Abraham Lincoln in her concession speech (“Liz Cheney compares herself to Abraham Lincoln: ’Now the real work begins,’” Web, Aug. 16). Liz Cheney is no Lincoln.

Instead, she is a war hawk. Lincoln was anything but. Ms. Cheney, who was deputy assistant secretary of state for Near Eastern Affairs under President George W. Bush, supported the immoral Iraq war, which was based upon lies spread by her father, then-Vice President Dick Cheney, the architect of the Iraq incursion. Both Cheneys still falsely claim that al Qaeda & Iraq’s Hussein were connected prior to the war.

Lincoln, on the other hand, condemned the Mexican-American War. He accused then President James K. Polk of promoting a falsehood to justify it. Lincoln introduced spot resolutions to request that Polk provide the exact location where Mexico had spilled blood on American soil.

Ms. Cheney never condemned officials in the Bush administration for leaking Valerie Plame’s CIA identity in an effort to discredit Ms. Plame’s husband. He had accused the administration of twisting intelligence to build the case for the invasion of Iraq. Lincoln would have never condoned such tactics.

Ms. Cheney is the direct antithesis of Lincoln.
