ASHBURN — The Washington Commanders activated tight end Logan Thomas off the Physically Unable to Perform list Monday, marking a big return months after the 31-year-old tore his ACL in December.
The activation was one of a series of roster moves the team announced prior to practice. In addition to Thomas, the Commanders claimed former Rams tight end Kendall Blanton off waivers, signed tight end Jake Hausmann and placed defensive end Bunmi Rotimi and tight end Eli Wolf on injured reserve.
The team also released fullback Alex Armah with an injury settlement.
The additions were a big boost to Washington’s tight end room, which had been decimated by injuries in recent weeks. The Commanders had just two players — Armani Rogers and Wolf — available at the position during Saturday’s 24-14 preseason loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Thomas’ return, however, is the most significant of the bunch. Since arriving to Washington in 2020, the former quarterback turned tight end has been an important part of the offense.
Over the last two seasons, Thomas has 90 catches for 866 yards and nine touchdowns. He signed a three-year, $24 million extension prior to last season, though ultimately appeared in just six games in an injury-riddled campaign.
In Monday’s practice, Thomas sported a brace on his left leg and participated in the team’s individual drills.
