Brian Stelter is leaving CNN and the network is canceling the Sunday show he hosts, “Reliable Sources.”
Mr. Stelter, 36, will host his last show this Sunday, ending his nine-year run on the program, according to multiple reports. It will also mark the conclusion of a newsletter that ran under the same name.
“It was a rare privilege to lead a weekly show focused on the press at a time when it has never been more consequential,” Mr. Stelter told NPR, which first reported the news.
CNN’s chief Chris Licht shared the news with Mr. Stelter on Wednesday, according to NPR.
“Stelter came to CNN from the New York Times as the nation’s top media reporter. He departs CNN an impeccable broadcaster,” Amy Entelis, CNN’s executive vice president for talent and content development, told NPR. “We are proud of what Brian and his team accomplished over the years, and we’re confident their impact and influence will long outlive the show.”
“Reliable Sources” is CNN’s longest-running show and celebrated its 30th anniversary in March.

Conservative pundits and media figures had a field day on social media celebrating the exit of Mr. Stelter, to whom they often referred as the “media’s janitor” and worse.
Everyone’s dunking on Brian Stelter since his show got canceled, but I honestly feel really bad for his fan.

I look forward to recognizing Brian Stelter as he runs up to my car at a red light to try and wash my windshield hoping I’ll give him some cash https://t.co/1SK0WhEQlY

Conservatives often denounced Mr. Stelter and how his show on news coverage as biased, slanted, and obsessed with Fox News.
In February, he defended CNN from criticisms that it “lacked journalism” and that it became “our opinions all the time” after its then-chief, Jeffrey Zucker, resigned over not disclosing an intra-office relationship.
