The Biden administration’s Department of Homeland Security is now rationalizing its conclusion that it is, in fact, a good idea to complete at least some parts of the southern border wall (“DHS defends new border wall construction, says it will save migrants’ lives,” Web, July 28).

DHS focuses on four “gaps” that will “protect illegal immigrants themselves from running risks by trying to run through the gaps.” The department said in a statement that these areas pose “a life and safety risk to first responders and agents responding to incidents.” I would surmise that the geography of these “gaps” has not changed since President Biden’s first day in office, when he arbitrarily canceled construction of this wall and promised “not to build ’another foot’ of his predecessor’s marquee project.”

This latest move shows more vindictiveness from the Biden administration when it comes to anything Trump-related, regardless of common sense or the well-being of U.S. citizens or illegal immigrants.

The action should also provide solid evidence for lawsuits against Mr. Biden and his DHS for anyone, first responder or illegal immigrant, who has been injured or killed due to Mr. Biden’s decision to leave these gaps in place. What’s more, it is an acknowledgement of Mr. Biden’s crimes against humanity.

If this new position “will save migrants’ lives,” the administration must first acknowledge that in the previous 18 months, it has taken migrants’ lives.
