Cleanup on Aisle 1.

Just two pitches into the Nationals’ game against the Giants on Sunday, Lucius Fox was taken out after barfing next to the pitcher’s mound. The upchuck was caught on camera during the television broadcast and shared frequently on social media.

Two pitches after Fox’s exit, Giants leadoff hitter Joc Pederson launched a home run to right-center field. For the rest of the game’s initial frame, Fox’s remnants remained next to the mound that Nationals starter Joan Adon occupied. The grounds crew then cleaned up the mess in between innings.

Fox, a utility infielder for the Nationals, got the start at third base due to Josh Bell’s hamstring injury that knocked him out of Saturday’s game. Nationals manager Dave Martinez said before the game that Bell’s MRI came back “pretty clean” and that they’ll test Bell out on Tuesday to see if he can play in the series opener against the Marlins.

Fox made his MLB debut earlier this season and laid down a game-tying safety squeeze in the Nationals’ first win of the year on April 10. He’s still chasing the elusive first hit of his big-league career.
