Hunt Auctions announced Friday A game-worn Bill Russell Boston Celtics jersey sold for $1,022,250, according to ESPN. 

The jersey sold for more than double the low-end of Hunt’s estimated sale price range of $400,000 to $600,000, according to Professional Sports Authenticator. 

Friday’s auction was the second of two auctions run by Hunt featuring items from Russell’s collection. The events brought in over $8 million combined, ESPN reported. 

Russell, 88, won 11 NBA championships with the Celtics from 1957 to 1969 and is a five-time NBA MVP. 

Russell was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1975 and was also a member of the 2021 Hall of Fame class. He is the fifth Hall of Famer— joining John Wooden, Bill Sharman, Lenny Wilkens and Tommy Heinsohn — to be inducted as a player and a coach.
