Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo took to Instagram Monday to announce the death of his newborn son.

“It is with our deepest sadness that we announce the passing of our baby boy. It’s the greatest pain any parent can feel,” Ronaldo wrote in a joint post with girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez. “Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness.

“We are all devastated at this loss and we kindly ask for privacy at this very difficult time. Our baby boy, you are our angel. We will always love you. Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez.”

The couple announced they were expecting twins in October — the other twin, a girl, survived.

Ronaldo, 37, has five children, two with Rodriguez, 28, including their newborn.

Manchester United sent out a message of support for their star player.
