Much of the debate about Elon Musk’s bid to buy Twitter has focused on the potential purchase’s implications for online censorship (“Elon Musk offers to buy Twitter, turn it into private company,” Web, April 14). But I’d rather have no speech than free speech or limited speech.

Twitter is brain-rotting poison. It has reduced attention spans, facilitated mob rule, prioritized knee-jerk panic over studied reflection, hollowed discourse and empowered a media clique of insatiable narcissists. Twitter has reduced us to imbecility, devouring our minds with an addiction to the tinkling of the notification bell. The psychic damage that Twitter has inflicted on Western minds has blighted a generation and may never be undone.

If Elon Musk bought Twitter just to shut it down, it would be a supremely meritorious act of public welfare and selfless charity. Please, Elon: Destroy Twitter. Free us from this hell.
