Multiple memorial services will be held for former Washington quarterback Dwayne Haskins, who died over the weekend after being hit by a dump truck in South Florida, later this month.

The first service will be held on April 23 at noon at Christ Church in Rockaway Township, New Jersey — the state where the quarterback was born. The next day, another service will be held at 7 p.m. at Bullis High School in Potomac, Maryland. Haskins attended Bullis after his family moved to Maryland when Haskins was in the ninth grade.

Haskins died Saturday when he was hit by a truck while attempting to walk across the westbound lanes of Interstate 595. An investigation remains ongoing into the 24-year-old’s death, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

“We have had such an overwhelming outpouring of love for our son since the news broke of our loss,” Tamara and Dwayne Haskins, Sr., the quarterback’s parents, told WUSA9. “Anyone who knew Dwayne knows he worked exceptionally hard to achieve such a high level of success at such a young age. He was touched by so many people on his journey to being a standout athlete and we are grateful to all of them.

“This pain is unimaginable and we appreciate everyone who shares in our heartbreak.”

Haskins, the 15th overall pick in 2019, played for Washington for almost two seasons. After being released in December 2020, before the season was over, he later latched on to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Haskins spent 2021 as a backup with Pittsburgh and was in South Florida to train with fellow teammates.

The Steelers will also reportedly hold a funeral service for Haskins, though the quarterback’s family told the team they do not plan on attending, according to WUSA9.
