OPINION:
“Never forget” has been the utterance of patriotic Americans since the catastrophic terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. But Joe Biden has forgotten. Whether the intentional effect is born of political convenience or the consequence of age-related infirmity, President Biden has instantly squandered 20 years of blood, sweat, and tears shed to redeem wrongs perpetrated against innocent victims on that fateful day. We will never forget 9/11, nor his callous betrayal.
Mr. Biden committed the most disastrous military reversal of fortune in the nation’s history with his abrupt pull-out from Afghanistan. The fallout be damned. The Taliban, the foe that U.S. forces crushed and scattered in lightning fashion, now flies its flag over every Afghan province. And Mr. Biden lacked even the common decency to prevent his duplicity from disgracing the solemn observance of the 20th anniversary of 9/11.
Whether blind to his administration’s anti-Americanism or uncaring of its aims, the president has contended that while our adversaries still roam faraway lands, certain members of “we the people” are the nation’s most dangerous enemies: “Make no mistake – the terrorist threat has evolved beyond Afghanistan since 2001 and we will remain vigilant against threats to the United States, wherever they come from,” Mr. Biden told a joint session of Congress earlier this year.
“Al Qaeda and ISIS are in Yemen, Syria, Somalia, and other places in Africa and the Middle East and beyond,” he said. “And, we won’t ignore what our own intelligence agencies have determined – the most lethal terrorist threat to the homeland today is from white supremacist terrorism.”
The well-protected president still clearly fears a significant proportion of Americans harboring doubts about the veracity of his election, some of whom raised cain at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 before one unarmed female veteran was shot dead by police. Some of his fellow citizens have more to fear, though than Mr. Biden. Owing to his unfathomable order to retreat helter-skelter from Afghanistan, they were abandoned to their own fate behind enemy lines. No, we will never forget.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken reassures Americans that the Taliban can be pacified with negotiation and U.S. dollars. Reminded of the confidence Dr. Anthony Fauci expressed in early 2020 that COVID-19 was no cause for concern, we remain unpersuaded.
Even now, Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, warns that civil war is likely to erupt in Afghanistan within the next year. The fragile U.S.-backed democracy is clearly on a return glide path to the mecca of Islamic terrorism that fired passenger jets into the heart of America.
Mr. Biden’s planned presence at commemoration services at New York City’s Ground Zero, Washington’s Pentagon, and Pennsylvania’s Shanksville dishonor the memory of the nearly 3,000 victims of Sept. 11, 2001. He is partnering with evildoers who gave succor to America’s most implacable foes.
President Biden may have forgotten “never forget,” but we will not.
