Houston Texans coach David Culley said Monday that quarterback Deshaun Watson would still be inactive for Thursday’s upcoming game against the Carolina Panthers, despite starter Tyrod Taylor dealing with a hamstring injury.

Watson, who’s been accused of sexual misconduct by 22 women, has been inactive for every game so far this season, but has not been suspended or placed on paid leave and is one of three quarterbacks on Houston’s roster. On Sunday, Taylor got hurt and rookie Davis Mills struggled — leaving others to wonder if Houston would turn to Watson. After Houston’s loss Sunday to the Cleveland Browns, Culley said “we’ll see” when asked about Watson’s status.

A day later, Culley shut down any idea of Watson playing in a game.

“Deshaun Watson will be deactivated this week just like he’s been for the first two weeks,” Culley said.

Culley said Taylor is day-to-day with a hamstring injury. If Taylor can’t play and Mills is the starter, the Texans could, in theory, promote quarterback Jeff Driske from the practice squad l to serve as Mills’ backup.

Watson has denied all accusations from the women, who claim the quarterback acted inappropriately during massages. Watson faces a civil lawsuit from the women, but has not been charged criminally. A police investigation into the claims reportedly remains ongoing.
