Republican Texas gubernatorial candidate Allen West said on Saturday that he is “probably going to be admitted to the hospital,” after being diagnosed with COVID-19 pneumonia.
Mr. West suspended all in-person events Saturday after his wife Angela West tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday. Mrs. West has received the COVID-19 vaccine. Mr. West has not.
He said on Twitter that he was experiencing a “low-grade fever and light body aches” Saturday and later said he and Mrs. West completed monoclonal antibody infusion therapy.
“There’s a concern about my oxygen saturation levels, which are at 89 and they should be at 95,” Mr. West said on Twitter.

Mr. West said on Thursday he had attended a “packed” fundraiser in Seabrook, Texas for Mission Generation.

Mr. West announced his bid in July against incumbent Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, who is also a Republican and has been endorsed by former President Donald Trump.
Before announcing his run for governor, Mr. West was a chair of the Republican Party of Texas.
Mr. West represented Florida in the U.S. House as a tea party Republican for one term after winning the seat in 2010. He failed to win reelection in 2012 and later moved to Texas.
He has criticized Mr. Abbott’s handling of COVID-19, taking aim at the governor for enacting statewide mask mandates and lockdowns during the pandemic.
