Jacksonville Jaguars coach Urban Meyer apologized Monday after videos and images of him in a bar went viral over the weekend.

Meyer was seen sitting on a barstool with a blond woman, who did not appear to be his wife, dancing close to his lap. Another image showed the coach posing next to a blond woman with the caption: “Who is this he keeps flirting with me.”

The Jaguars did not have a game this weekend since they played on “Thursday Night Football,” losing 24-21 to the Cincinnati Bengals. Jacksonville is 0-4 to start the season under Meyer, his first as an NFL coach. Meyer, one of the most successful college coaches in history, agreed to join the Jaguars in the offseason — enticed that the franchise would be able to draft quarterback Trevor Lawrence with the first overall pick.

Meyer told reporters he apologized to his team for “being a distraction.” Meyer said he remained in Ohio after the Bengals game to see his family. He said he went to the bar after dinner with his grandchildren, adding that a “big group” next to the restaurant convinced him to go over and take pictures. He said they tried to convince him to go on the dance floor.

“It was stupid,” Meyer said. “So I explained everything that happened. And owned it. And, you know, just stupid. I should not have put myself in that kind of position.”

Meyer said his family was upset over the incident and that he apologized to them.
