The Washington Capitals listed T.J. Oshie as week to week with a lower-body injury on Thursday afternoon.
The veteran winger took a shot off his right foot from Detroit’s Danny DeKeyser in the third period of the Capitals’ 3-2 overtime loss Wednesday. Oshie went to the bench immediately after, but he finished the game without missing any shifts.
He did not participate in the team’s optional practice Thursday.
Oshie has four goals and two assists in the Capitals’ first seven games, including a hat trick in their 7-5 win over Ottawa on Monday. He’s third on the team in points and goals scored and first in shot percentage (30.8%).
The injury isn’t the first the Capitals have dealt with this fall, as center Nicklas Backstrom was placed on long-term injured reserve the day before the season began. Backstrom, who is recovering from a hip injury, is able to return as early as Nov. 6 against Philadelphia. Coach Peter Laviolette said last week that Backstrom is “progressing” and is skating on his own.
The Capitals are back in action Friday against Arizona at Capital One Arena.
