GREEN BAY, Wis. — The Washington Football Team will be without its top cornerback Sunday as William Jackson III is out with a knee injury. Jackson was one of the team’s seven inactives against the Green Bay Packers.
The team previously listed Jackson as questionable, but the 28-year-old looked to be trending the wrong direction over the course of the week. After being a limited participant in practice Wednesday and Thursday, Jackson did not practice at all Friday.
Without Jackson, rookie Benjamin St-Juste is expected to start opposite Kendall Fuller.
Jackson, the team’s top free-agent signing in the offseason, has had a rough start to the season. Through six games, Jackson is still adapting to the differences in Washington’s scheme and the scheme that he was used to in Cincinnati. The former Bengals cornerback thrives in man-to-man coverage and he’s struggled in Washington’s zone-based scheme.
Still, Washington’s depth at the position could be tested without Jackson. The team was already down cornerback Darryl Roberts, who is on injured reserve with a quad injury. And beyond Fuller and St-Juste, the team’s other three active cornerbacks — Danny Johnson, Corn Elder and Troy Apke — have yet to play a defensive snap this season.

— Guard Brandon Scherff (knee)
— Defensive end Shaka Toney (illness)
— Tackle Sam Cosmi (ankle)
— Tight end Jace Sternberger.
