The Washington Capitals placed Anthony Mantha on injured reserve Friday with a shoulder injury.
Mantha, 27, was injured in the second period of the Capitals’ overtime loss to the Florida Panthers on Thursday. Mantha underwent surgery on his shoulder after the game in Florida, the team announced.
Mantha, who has two goals and four assists this season, is eligible to return Nov. 11 against Detroit, but the Capitals’ announcement said he will be “out indefinitely.”
While the Capitals will be without the second-line winger, the team did welcome back center Nic Dowd on Thursday from his brief stint on injured reserve.
When Dowd returned, the team sent Aliaksei Protas back down to Hershey, but Protas, who the Capitals drafted in 2019, was recalled after Mantha’s injury.
Mantha joins Nicklas Backstrom and T.J. Oshie on the shelf. Oshie was placed on injured reserve on Oct. 29 after he took a shot off his right foot in the team’s overtime loss to Detroit on Oct. 27. Backstrom was put on long-term injured reserve the day before the season began with a hip injury from last season.
Oshie and Backstrom are both eligible to return Saturday against Philadelphia.
