Biden is a law unto himself

There was a time when the laws governing human affairs were inscribed on tablets and carried down from on high. Now the rules are cooked up in the unholy bowels of the bureaucracy. Joe Biden spent decades working the dirty job of lawmaking, which sometimes has the look of lawbreaking. Now occupying the highest office, President Biden appears a law unto himself.

The nation’s 46th president recently ordered his radically inclined advisers to find a way to force Americans to submit to the COVID-19 vaccine. The Labor Department complied, rapidly drafting a rule requiring businesses with 100 or more employees to mandate the vax by Jan. 4 or test negative for the virus weekly.

Mr. Biden assured the nation that his order was salvific, only to watch 26 states sue. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit cast doubt on the mandate’s constitutionality on Nov. 6 and suspended its enactment. In response, the White House instructed Americans to simply ignore the court. “People should not wait,” Deputy Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters. “They should continue to move forward and make sure they’re getting their workplace vaccinated.”

Unamused by the administration’s blithe dismissal of its co-equal authority, the appeals court reaffirmed its initial stay on Friday. The ruling read that the vaccine mandate is “a one-size-fits-all sledgehammer that makes hardly any attempt to account for differences in workplaces (and workers).”

That would be the very sledgehammer Mr. Biden et al. have wielded against laws requiring them to uphold the nation’s immigration regulations. On its own authority, the White House in June halted the so-called “Remain in Mexico” policy instituted during the Trump era, which sent illegal immigrants back to Mexico while their asylum petitions were considered.

Lawsuits by states impacted by the subsequent flood of immigrants prompted the same 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to order the policy’s resumption. Pleading a lack of cooperation from Mexico, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas only recently confirmed the policy has restarted – all the while scheming to kill it again.

In the meantime, border officials have been secretly flying planeloads of recent entrants to cities across the nation without regard for vax status that the president has declared a condition of employment for most Americans. Florida alone has been the unwilling recipient of 70 such flights, says Gov. Ron DeSantis.

While Team Biden unapologetically secretes strangers into American communities, it has dropped its heavy hammer on a businessman caught doing the same thing. The administration has ordered a steel manufacturing company owner, who himself was once an illegal immigrant, to pay a $6 million penalty for funneling illegals across the U.S.-Mexico border and hiring them.

Mr. Biden appears to be channeling the late Richard Nixon, who once said, “When the president does it, that means that it is not illegal.” Nixon learned the error of his ways —  the hard way.
