OPINION:
Almost three-quarters of Americans who spoke to McLaughlin/Summit pollsters about the origins of individual rights say it’s God, not government, who bestows.
Hear that? That’s the sound of Democrats’ heads exploding.
If anything is insufferable to the leftists who’ve infiltrated the Democratic Party and infused it with socialism-slash-communism-slash-Marxism, it’s an American patriot demanding God-given rights. To leftists, that’s about as vulgar as it gets. It’s akin to giving the middle finger to the government.
Survey says: “73% of American voters who have an opinion about the issue say that they agree with America’s founders that our rights are given to us by our Creator and not by the government.”
The political breakdown speaks volumes.
Fully 80% of polled Republicans say their rights come from God; 60% of independents agree; so do 51% of Democrats.
And just in time for Thanksgiving — the time to thank God and gather with family — is this: 75% of polled American voters say the government has no right to force citizens to do things that violate their personal religious convictions.
Vaccine mandates, anyone?
With President Biden in the White House, and the government overreaches coming fast and furious, nearly daily, the survey is a spot of light in dark political times.
“We hold these truths to be self-evident,” America’s Declaration of Independence states.
“That [we] are endowed by [our] Creator with certain inalienable rights,” the Declaration continues.
That was 1776. It’s good to know so many, many Americans still buy into that creed, circa 2021.
