LEWES, Del. (AP) - A Delaware teenager accused of crashing a car while under the influence then assaulting two state police troopers has been charged with several felonies, according to authorities.
The 17-year-old from Milton was taken into custody Friday afternoon after he allegedly ran away from the scene of a car crash, resisted arrest and attacked two responding Delaware State Police troopers, the agency said in a statement Saturday.
Officials said troopers searching the area of the initial crash report discovered the suspect hiding at a mobile home park and the juvenile “forcibly resisted” the officers before engaging in a physical altercation with them.
Both troopers suffered minor injuries, and one trooper was taken to a hospital for treatment, police said. The troopers were not immediately identified and their injuries were not detailed.
The juvenile, who was not named because he is underage, was charged with two counts of second-degree assault injuring a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with force, criminal mischief and several traffic violations, including driving a vehicle under the influence of a drug, the agency said.
The juvenile was arraigned and released on a $13,000 unsecured bond, according to authorities.
