Dan Snyder said he wants to build a “state of the art” stadium for the Washington Football Team and is touring the country to get an up-close look at modern facilities.
Snyder made the brief remarks to TMZ Sports, which interviewed the Washington owner this week outside of Sofi Stadium — the $5 billion home of the Los Angeles Rams and Chargers that opened in 2020. Snyder was with team president Jason Wright and other staff members on the trip.
Snyder said he hopes to have a new stadium built by 2027 — when the team’s current lease at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland expires. He said he was open to having the next stadium in the District, Maryland or Virginia.
“We’re traveling all over the world,” Snyder said. “We’re going to Europe and going around, just looking the best of the best.”
Wright added the team would “take inspiration from everywhere.” He said the team’s next home would be “cutting edge and innovative.”
Washington has had trouble finalizing the site of its next stadium. City officials in the District have been opposed to building a new stadium at the site of RFK Stadium, which will be demolished in 2022. Maryland also backed out of a plan to have the stadium be built near MGM Casino in Oxon Hill.
Snyder was not asked about the NFL’s ongoing sexual misconduct investigation into Washington’s workplace, though TMZ asked him for an update on the team’s search for a new name.
“We’ll let you know soon,” Snyder said.
