OPINION:
Imagine if President Donald Trump, while in the White House, told the pool of press people that for his two-year in-office anniversary, he was going to grant special one-on-one interviews — but only to Caucasians.
That’s what Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, a black Democrat, just did.
Yes, said Lightfoot, in a public statement reported by The Hill.
“[I am indeed] exclusively providing one-on-one interviews with journalists of color,” she said. “I have been struck since my first day on the campaign trail in 2018 by the overwhelming whiteness and maleness of Chicago media outlets, editorial boards, the political press corps and yes, the City Hall press corps.”
She also tweeted that “diversity and inclusion” “across all institutions including media” “is imperative.”
And with that, she excused her racism.
The left has been making the case for some time that it’s impossible for Blacks to be racist because racists need to be in power, and in America, Blacks are not the ones holding the reigns of control. That’s a cop-out. Racism runs both ways — racism runs all ways. A good definition is this, from Dictionary.com: “[Racism is] a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human racial groups determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one’s own race is superior and has the right to dominate others or that a particular racial group is inferior to others.”
It’s intolerance of one class of citizenry based on skin color, and the simultaneous embrace or elevation of another class of citizenry based once again, on skin color.
Lightfoot calls it diversity.
She characterizes it as trying to level the playing ground.
But be not fooled.
She’s using skin color as a standard of giving a select few a special privilege, and using that same skin color determinant as cause to refuse another grouping that same special privilege. And the fact she’s using her taxpayer-funded position to pick and choose — by skin color — who gets versus who does not get is an egregious abuse of power, rooted in racist ideology.
If Lightfoot is not racist, consider Trump doing the same.
