OPINION:
President Biden in a tweet gave Americans the choice to either “get vaccinated” or “wear a mask.” As if he were the dictator and Americans were his subjects.
“The rule is now simple,” @POTUS tweeted. “[G]et vaccinated or wear a mask until you do. The choice is yours.”
Or else what?
Come and get me, coppa — and come and get a copy of the Constitution.
Here in America, government wonks, including the Centers for Disease Control, including the president of the United States, including Dohktah Anthony Fauci, may all issue guidance, recommendations, advisements, even stern warnings. But dictates?
This coronavirus has stretched the boundaries of the bureaucrats, for sure. The Democrats in particular are all running amok with political and personal ambitions, drunk on pandemic-handed powers, determined to keep in place as long as possible already dubiously applied emergency health declarations.
But Biden — or somebody acting on Biden’s behalf — has taken the authorities vested in the office of the White House to a new level of Executive, and somewhere in the wee hours of the night tried to slide past the part in American government where it says “serve and protect” into the arena where it reads “rule and subjugate.”
We the people have kinda had enough of government’s arrogance.
“Anyone who is fully vaccinated can participate in indoor and outdoor activities large or small without wearing a mask or physical distancing,” the CDC’s director, Dr. Rochelle Walensky, said.
All hail the CDC.
Thing is: Americans don’t need the CDC’s permission to remove masks, gather in groups either indoors or outdoors, stand alongside family, friends and neighbors within hugging distance — return to work, work out at the gym, work on tans at the beach, or any number of other actions the bureaucrats in the federal government have limited, barred, or tried to limit or halt over the recent COVID-19 months.
In America, Americans make up their own minds.
The government works for the people — remember that little line item in civics’ class? It’s not the other way around. And when it comes to health care in America, Americans are vested with the authorities to decide for self which medical path to walk. That path may be in line with the government’s recommendations, but then again, it may not.
“The choice is yours,” Biden said.
Got that right.
And Americans don’t need to be told that by public servants, either, as if receiving some sort of award, or reward, or special blessing from good government above.
The choice is inherent. It’s part of being an American. In other words, no “thank you’s” necessary.
