MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Rhodes College President Marjorie Hass will be leaving the Tennessee liberal arts school this summer to take a leadership position with an organization of independent colleges.
The Memphis college said Thursday that Hass is stepping down in mid-August to become president of the Council of Independent Colleges, an association of independent colleges and universities.
Hass has been president of Rhodes College since 2017. During her tenure, she appointed the college’s first chief diversity officer and led Rhodes through the coronavirus pandemic.
Rhodes has employed remote learning during the pandemic and worked with the college’s board of trustees “to ensure no faculty and staff were furloughed and no employees lost their jobs during the economic uncertainty,” a news release said.
“Rhodes is well-positioned to face the challenges ahead,” Hass said in a statement. “I’m sad to leave this amazing campus and city.”
Rhodes has an enrollment of about 2,000.
