JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Gov. Tate Reeves has chosen a state circuit court judge to serve on the Mississippi Court of Appeals.

Reeves announced Wednesday that John Emfinger will succeed Cory Wilson on the 10-member appellate court.

Wilson left the spot last year after being confirmed to the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Emfinger was district attorney for Madison and Rankin counties from January 2008 to December 2010. He was elected as a circuit court judge in those counties and started in that position in January 2011.

In announcing the appointment, Reeves called Emfinger “a man of character.”

“He is a man of his word,” Reeves said. “And he is committed to protecting the rule of law in Mississippi,”
