MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont’s unemployment rate dropped a tenth of a percentage point in February to 3.1%, according to state Department of Labor.
State Labor Commissioner Michael Harrington said in a written statement Friday that the only sector that has experienced job growth in Vermont since February of last year is professional and technical services.
The industry has shown greater resilience to the economic disruption of COVID-19 because jobs can more easily be transferred to a virtual work environment or workers can operate with a high degree of social distancing, he said.
“With highly skilled positions in areas such as information technology, finance and accounting, computer programming, and other business-to-business services, this sector is poised for continued growth over the coming years,” he said.
Around the state, jobless rates ranged from 2.6% in Northfield-Waitsfield to 4.4% in Derby. The national jobless rate was 6.2%. in February.
