ORONO, Maine (AP) - Patrons of a store in Orono earlier this month might have been exposed to a kind of hepatitis, the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention said.
The agency said Thursday it has identified a case of acute hepatitis A virus infection in a person who handled food at a Circle K in Orono during several days this month. The agency said some patrons of the store could be at risk for the infection.
Maine CDC said anyone who might have eaten food prepared at or who worked at the Circle K from March 13-16 or March 20-21 should receive hepatitis A vaccine within 14 days of their potential exposure. The agency said anyone who ate food work worked at the business from March 6-9 is outside the window for the vaccine and should watch for symptoms and seek medical attention if they need it.
The infected person was a food service worker, Maine CDC said. Hepatitis A is a contagious liver disease that causes symptoms such as tiredness, low appetite, stomach pain and jaundice.
