President Biden said Thursday that he plans to run for reelection in 2024.
“The answer is yes — my plan is to run for reelection,” Mr. Biden said at his first formal press conference since taking office. “That’s my expectation.”
Mr. Biden, 78, is the oldest-ever U.S. president.
Former President Trump filed for his own reelection bid on Inauguration Day in 2017.
“My predecessor,” Mr. Biden said when asked about Mr. Trump’s early moves on his own reelection. “Oh, God — I miss him.”
Pressed on whether he definitely plans to run again, the president repeated that it’s his “expectation” to do so.
“I’m a great respecter of fate,” Mr. Biden said. “I’ve never been able to plan four-and-a-half, three-and-a-half years ahead for certain.”
He said he would “fully expect” Vice President Kamala Harris to be on the 2024 Democratic ticket with him.
“She’s doing a great job — she’s a great partner,” he said.
Mr. Biden said he has “no idea” whether he’ll be running against Mr. Trump.
