The Washington Football Team signed veteran receiver Adam Humphries to a one-year deal Thursday, giving the team an experienced option in the slot as it looks to upgrade the offense.
Humphries, 27, spent the last two seasons with the Tennessee Titans, though his time there was marred by injuries. Humphries appeared in only seven games last year, catching 23 passes for 228 yards.
But before that, Humphries thrived in Tampa Bay — where he spent four seasons and caught 219 passes for 2329 yards. His best season came in 2018 (76 receptions for 816 yards), coincidentally when new Washington quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick started seven games for the Buccaneers.
Washington also signed Curtis Samuel earlier this offseason, and Samuel spent most of last year in the slot. But the former Carolina Panthers wideout spent most of his time on the outside when coached by offensive coordinator Scott Turner, who now resides in Washington.
Washington didn’t get much production from the slot last year, relying mostly on Steven Sims, Isaiah Wright and running back J.D. McKissic.
Humphries visited Washington on Thursday and was signed hours later. Details of his one year deal weren’t announced.
