Former Washington cornerback Fabian Moreau agreed to a one-year deal Wednesday with the Atlanta Falcons, according to multiple reports.
Moreau leaves Washington after four seasons. Drafted in the third round out of UCLA in 2017, the 26-year-old spent time on the outside and inside at cornerback. He started 18 of 60 games, though hardly saw the field last year. Moreau played just 156 snaps — nearly 15% — last year.
Moreau was better on the outside than as a nickel corner, where he struggled to adjust to the spot after coaches switched him there in 2018. After moving back to the outside in 2019, he had a career year in which he grabbed three interceptions in 16 games.
Moreau had 125 tackles across four seasons with three forced fumbles. He also recorded 14 passes defensed.
Moreau now joins a Falcons team coming off a 4-12 season that’s in need of secondary help. Atlanta ranked 19th in passing defense DVOA, a Football Outsiders metric that measures efficiency.
In Atlanta, Moreau reunites with Kyle Smith, Washington’s former vice president of player personnel who joined the Falcons this offseason in a similar role. Smith was Washington’s director of college scouting when Moreau was drafted.
The NFL Network was the first to report Moreau’s deal.
