WARE SHOALS, S.C. (AP) - A woman’s body that washed up along the bank of the Saluda River has been identified as that of a missing South Carolina woman last seen in October.

Greenwood County Coroner Sonny Cox said fishermen found the woman’s body Sunday in some brush along a bank in the Ware Shoals area, multiple news agencies reported.

Cox identified the woman as Donna Babb, 54, of Ware Shoals, who was last seen leaving her father’s house on Oct. 4. Her family reported her missing Nov. 17.

In December, Ware Shoals police said they received a tip to search the Ware Shoals Dam and came across a purse and shoe. The purse was later identified to have belonged to Babb, and police had been searching near and in the dam since then.

An autopsy was performed Monday, the coroner’s office said. It is not yet known how or when Babb died.

“I would like somebody to come forward with a tip about what happened to her, I think people are scared to talk about it right now still. If there was foul play I defiantly want to know, if you know something, let us know about it,” Ware Shoals Police Chief Bryan Louis said.
