NORTH BABYLON, N.Y. (AP) - A Long Island man faced charges Sunday after a shot allegedly was fired during a police pursuit after a traffic stop.
The incident occurred Saturday in North Babylon. According to Suffolk County police, an officer attempted to pull over a Nissan Maxima driven by 22-year-old Tahlik Brown for traffic violations at approximately 2:20 p.m.
Brown, of Amityville, then allegedly drove away and struck a Hyundai SUV and Nissan Rogue, then got out of the car and ran through the parking lot of a strip mall.
During the pursuit, Brown’s gun allegedly discharged once. Brown was captured in a nearby garage and a gun was recovered in a swimming pool, police said.
The driver of the Hyundai wasn’t injured. The driver and the passenger in the Rogue were taken to a hospital with minor injuries, according to police.
Brown was held overnight and scheduled to appear in court Sunday. He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident and various traffic offenses.
A message was left with the county district attorney’s office seeking information on whether Brown had retained an attorney who could comment on the charges.
