CHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - New York State Police have lost a semi-automatic rifle in the Adirondacks and are now seeking the public’s help in tracking it down.
The Rock River AR-15 was first reported missing Tuesday, and at the time, the agency declined to say who the gun belonged to, the Post-Star reported.
A press release issued Wednesday indicated that the weapon was last seen along Route 9 near Riverside Drive in Chester, Warren County.
The agency did not immediately respond to a request from the Post-Star on Wednesday for comment on who the rifle belonged to or how it went missing.
The agency updated the release on Thursday and said the missing gun belongs to state police, and that an investigation into how it went missing is ongoing. The rifle was not stolen, according to the release.
State police declined to provide additional details, citing the ongoing investigation.
