Trent Williams, the former Washington Football Team left tackle, earned a major payday.

Williams reached an agreement with the San Francisco 49ers to become the highest-paid offensive lineman in NFL history, his agency, Elite Loyalty Sports, announced Wednesday morning. Williams’ deal is worth $138.06 million over six years with $55.1 million guaranteed.

Dianna Russini of ESPN reported Williams earned a $30.1 million signing bonus, the highest given to an offensive lineman.

Williams left Washington in a trade last year, with the Football Team receiving a 2020 fifth-round pick and 2021 third-round selection in return from the 49ers. He made his eighth Pro Bowl — although he didn’t play in 2019 after he had a cancerous growth on his head removed.

Williams had lost trust in Washington’s medical staff after they had seemingly downplayed the growth. He wound up holding out, and once he reported back to the team, he said there was discomfort putting his helmet on.

The two sides eventually separated with the trade. But Williams, 32, excelled in San Francisco amid an otherwise down season for the 49ers. His new deal surpasses Packers left tackle David Bakhtiari’s deal as the biggest deal ever given to an offensive lineman.
