Dave Portnoy: Barstool Sports founder, pizza aficionado, and … Chicago carjacking case-cracker?
The famous entrepreneur’s popular “One Bite Pizza” reviews recently went off the rails after a Windy City thief did his dirty work while cameras rolled.
“Are we serious right now? Did he just get carjacked? Guy just got carjacked,” Mr. Portnoy, confused but composed outside Art of Pizza, said March 10. “I saw that guy peel the f— out. We just had a live carjacking. … Do we have the guy who carjacked him?”
The brazen suspect pulled off the crime in front of cops and struck their vehicle in the rear during his getaway.
“On March 10, a 27-year-old male victim observed his vehicle on the street with an unknown male offender inside,” Chicago Police Communications & News Affairs tweeted March 12. “The victim then flagged down officers nearby in a marked CPD squad car. The offender then accelerated & struck the rear of the squad car before fleeing west on Polk. … This incident is not a vehicular hijacking and is classified as a motor vehicle theft.”
Police noted that no one was injured during the crime and asked anyone with tips to send them to http://CPDtip.com.
“We just caught — be on alert, Chicago,” Mr. Portnoy joked. “I’m here, cameras are rolling and you think you’re gonna carjack and get away with it? Cameras are rollin’, pizzas being eaten, crazy guys coming up with chicken sandwiches that his girlfriend ordered. … It’s a review. Welcome to Chicago.”
An investigation is ongoing.
