LOS ANGELES (AP) - Another March storm moved through California on Monday, bringing snow to the Sierra Nevada, rain showers elsewhere and gale conditions offshore.

A mix of winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories stretched the length of the Sierra and southward into mountain ranges of Southern California that were just coated with snow last week.

Caltrans recommended motorists traveling through the Sierra check for chain requirements.

Warnings for high winds blanketed a large portion of the interior of Southern California.

With cold air following the front, freeze watches were to go into effect in far northwestern counties. Forecasters set frost advisories to take effect early Tuesday in the interior valleys north of San Francisco Bay and in the Salinas and Hollister valleys.

“Brrrrr,” the Bay Area weather office tweeted, urging residents to protect pets, livestock and plants.

This month’s stormy weather has marked a turnabout from largely dry fall and winter months but widespread rain and snowfall deficits remain.

As of Sunday, San Francisco’s airport had recorded 7.02 inches (17.8 centimeters) of rain since the Oct. 1 start of the water year, still more than 10 inches (25.4 centimeters) below normal.

Chances of rain in Northern California may redevelop late in the week, forecasters said.
