MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - A suspected drunken driver has been arrested in the death of an off-duty police officer who was killed in a car crash in Memphis, Tennessee, authorities said.

Robert Earl Jackson, 54, was arrested Friday on an aggravated vehicular homicide warrant, the Memphis Police Department said on Twitter. Online court records did not show whether Jackson had a lawyer to speak on his behalf about the charge Friday.

Officer Nicholas Blow, 31, was driving away from a police station parking lot on Monday night when his car was hit by a vehicle driven by Jackson, police said.

Blow died at a hospital. Jackson was taken to a hospital, where he was treated for injuries suffered in the collision, police said.

Jackson was released from the hospital, but an arrest warrant was later issued after tests revealed his blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit for driving, police said.

Blow was hired by the Memphis Police Department in 2018. He served in the U.S. Army and was the father of a 2-month-old girl.

Police are raising money for a trust fund for the girl.
