LAS VEGAS (AP) - The $1.9 trillion economic recovery package approved Wednesday by Congress includes about $4.5 billion for Nevada, with funds for the state, counties, cities, schools and transportation.
The state government is set to get $2.95 billion, U.S. Rep. Dina Titus said. Clark County is expected to see $439.6 million. The city of Las Vegas was allocated $130.6 million.
Approval came with Democrats in support and Republicans united in opposition. President Joe Biden pushed for the coronavirus recovery bill and is expected to sign it on Friday.
The Clark County School District is expected to get more than $835 million, Titus reported.
McCarran International Airport was allocated about $170 million, and the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada, $130 million.
Many Nevadans will receive direct payments from the federal government of $1,400 if they make less than $75,000 per year, or $2,800 per couple.
Federal unemployment assistance will be extended into the fall.
Nevada has consistently ranked as one of the highest states for unemployment. Las Vegas unemployment was at 9.2% in December, behind only Hawaii, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Congress also added small business loans to help entrepreneurs survive the economic downturn and avoid laying off workers.
