OPINION:
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi dropped a bit of a bombshell on Sunday with a statement that said the sexual harassment accusations against Gov. Andrew Cuomo are “credible” and worthy of investigation.
Tire, meet Cuomo’s face.
That’s the sound of one of America’s most influential Democrats throwing the New York governor under the bus.
“The women who have come forward with serious and credible charges against Governor Cuomo deserve to be heard and to be treated with dignity,” Pelosi said. “The independent investigation must have due process and respect for everyone involved.”
She also called the allegations — from Charlotte Bennett, 25, and Lindsey Boylan, 36 — “serious and credible.” Bennett has accused Cuomo of asking inappropriate questions about her sex life; Boylan, of forcibly kissing her and asking her to play strip poker.
Cuomo, while denying the women’s allegations, has also acknowledged “insensitive” behavior and said he was “truly sorry” for any offense.
“[I’m] playful,” he explained.
“[I] make jokes that I think are funny,” he added.
“I now understand that my interactions may have been insensitive or too personal,” he went on.
Ya think?
It’s one thing for the media whore Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to jump to the story and demand an investigation.
“Lindsey Boylan and Charlotte Bennett’s detailed accounts of sexual harassment by Gov. Cuomo are extremely serious and painful to read,” the socialist said, calling for an attorney general investigation.
It’s one thing for a senator who’s already left a media mark on the fight against sexual harassment — Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand — calling for an investigation of Cuomo.
“These allegations are serious and deeply concerning,” Gillibrand said of Cuomo — the same Gillibrand who said Bill Clinton should have resigned over the Monica Lewinsky affair, and Al Franken, over sexual misconduct accusations.
It’s another thing entirely for Pelosi to step into the fray and call for an independent investigation against the 63-year-old governor.
Then there was this, from White House press secretary Jen Psaki: “[It’s time for] an independent review looking into these allegations.” And President Joe Biden supports that, too, she said.
“Biden supports an ‘independent review’ into sexual harassment allegations against New York Gov. Cuomo, press secretary says,” Business Insider wrote.
The walls are closing in. Cuomo’s days are numbered. All that’s left is the resignation letter. And given the political weight of the Democratic sharks who are currently circling Cuomo’s carcass, that formality shouldn’t be long in coming.
