Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Trevor Bauer has been accused of assault, stemming from a sexual encounter with a woman earlier this year.

The Pasadena Police Department is investigating an incident that occurred in May, a spokesperson told ESPN.

The woman’s attorney, Marc Garelick, said in a statement to TMZ the woman sought and was given a domestic violence restraining order against Bauer. Garelick said the woman “suffered severe physical and emotional pain” from Bauer.

“Our goal is to keep Mr. Bauer from contacting our client in any way possible,” Garelick told TMZ, which first reported the details Tuesday night. “We anticipate there will be criminal action against Mr. Bauer, and it is our hope law enforcement will take our client’s allegations and case seriously.”

Bauer’s agent and attorney, Jon Fetterolf, told ESPN in a statement that there was no wrongdoing from Bauer. He said the relationship was “consensual” and called the allegations of assault “baseless.”

“Mr. Bauer had a brief and wholly consensual sexual relationship initiated by [the woman] beginning in April 2021,” Fetterolf told ESPN in the statement. “We have messages that show [the woman] repeatedly asking for ’rough’ sexual encounters involving requests to be ’choked out’ and slapped in the face. In both of their encounters, [the woman] drove from San Diego to Mr. Bauer’s residence in Pasadena, Calif., where she went on to dictate what she wanted from him sexually and he did what was asked.”

Fetterolf said Bauer and the woman met twice. After the second encounter, the woman told Bauer that she “sought medical care for a concussion,” Fetterolf said, to which Bauer replied with “concern and confusion.” Fetterolf said the woman was “neither angry nor accusatory.”

“Mr. Bauer and [the woman] have not corresponded in over a month and have not seen each other in over six weeks,” Fetterolf’s statement continued. “Her basis for filing a protection order is nonexistent, fraudulent and deliberately omits key facts, information and her own relevant communications. Any allegations that the pair’s encounters were not 100% consensual are baseless, defamatory and will be refuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

Bauer won the National League Cy Young Award last season with the Cincinnati Reds and has a 2.59 ERA this season with the Dodgers. He signed a three-year, $102-million contract with Los Angeles this offseason.
