OPINION:
A book by Anthony Fauci called “Expect the Unexpected: Ten Lessons on Truth, Service, and the Way Forward,” due for release on Nov. 2, has magically disappeared from major booksellers’ preorder sites, leading many to speculate that it’s backlash from FOIA’d emails that proved not all coming from the good doctor’s mouth about the coronavirus in recent months was actually, well, truthful.
Call this delicious irony. These bookselling sites are simply following the science.
The hundreds of emails obtained by BuzzFeedNews via the Freedom of Information Act request do indeed show Fauci has been playing loose with truths on COVID-19-related issues for more than a year.
“As you can see,” Sen. Rand Paul wrote in his own email to supporters, “emails that have been released now under Freedom of Information Act show two very important things: FAUCI has been lying. I’ve been right all along.”
Among the deceptions?
Email Fauci said face masks are simply for “infected people to prevent them from spreading infection to people who are not infected rather than protecting uninfected people from acquiring infection.”
Face of Media Fauci said if one face mask for all American citizens was good, sick or not, symptomatic or not, vaccinated or not, then two were better — it’s “common sense,” he said. Dontcha know.
Email Fauci recognized that the ridiculous cloth face masks people have been wearing were really not protection against the virus at all because — drumroll please, Captain Obvious has entered the room —COVID-19 is “small enough to pass through material.”
Face of Media Fauci drew no such distinction. In fact, he told 60 Minutes in October of 2020 just the opposite.
“It became clear,” he said then, holding up a piece of cloth, “that cloth coverings, things like this here, and not necessarily a surgical mask or an N95. Cloth coverings work.”
And then he added during that same show, “Contrary to what we thought, masks really do work in preventing infection.”
But the biggest email oddity was this: Email Fauci acknowledged that the Wuhan Institute of Virology was actively engaged in dangerous gain of function research — and that he had actually been using U.S. tax dollars to fund the research.
Face of Media Fauci has skirted the issue. Still does, as a matter of fact.
“Fauci Defends U.S. Grants to Wuhan Lab, Warns Against Taking Emails Out of Context,” Yahoo News just wrote.
And this, from The New York Post, a week ago: “Fauci admits NIH funding of Wuhan lab, denies ‘gain of function.’”
Would the real Dr. Anthony Fauci please step forward?
Just don’t look to Amazon or Barnes & Noble for the “Truth.”
