After a 10-day stint on the Injured List, Washington Nationals right-handed pitcher Max Scherzer is back and will start on the road against the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday night.
The Nationals reinstated the three-time Cy Young Award winner on Tuesday after his time on the IL with groin inflammation.
Scherzer was pulled from his start against the San Francisco Giants on June 11 after 12 pitches, resulting in the trip off the active roster. In his last full start, Scherzer tossed 7.2 innings, allowing five hits and one earned run while logging nine strikeouts.
In a corresponding move, the Nationals placed right-handed relief pitcher Kyle Finnegan on the 10-day IL with a left hamstring strain.
