For Green Bay, it’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood now that Mr. Rodgers is back.
After an offseason filled with uncertainty regarding Aaron Rodgers’ immediate future with the Packers, the quarterback reported to training camp Tuesday morning.
Rodgers and Green Bay have been at a crossroads for most of the offseason, but ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Monday that the sides were close to an agreement that would offer Rodgers several concessions.
Those concessions include a potential out for Rodgers from his contract after this upcoming season, and the 2023 year — the final year of Rodgers’ current contract — would be voided. That could make a trade following this season possible.
Rodgers arrived in Green Bay late Monday night, and he avoided a potential fine for missing training camp by arriving Tuesday for a coronavirus test and team meeting.
The Packers begin practicing Wednesday, but Rodgers might not necessarily be on the field for that, ESPN reported, as he waits for the details of a restructured contract to be finalized.
Rodgers is coming off a season in which he threw for 48 touchdowns and 4,299 yards, earning his third MVP award in the process.
