Deshaun Watson will reportedly show up to the Houston Texans’ training camp on Sunday when players are required to report.
The 25-year-old quarterback returns to the franchise at a tumultuous time. Watson is dealing with 22 civil lawsuits from women who accused him of sexual misconduct when receiving massages. Watson also has demanded a trade from the Texans, unhappy with the team’s hiring of general manager Nick Caserio.
According to the NFL Network, Watson still wants out of Houston, though plans to report for camp in order to avoid a $50,000 per day fine. The Texans have gone about as if Watson won’t play for them in 2021, signing journeyman Tyrod Taylor and drafting third-rounder Davis Mills to play quarterback. The team has said little about Watson’s alleged conduct, except that they take the matter “very seriously.” The NFL is conducting an investigation into the allegations.
Watson, in theory, could be placed on the Commissioner’s Exempt list — which would allow Watson to be away from the team while the investigation into the sexual misconduct allegations. Some of the women accusing Watson have gone to the police, though no criminal charges have been filed.
